So, you want to upgrade your rifle from iron sights to a tactical red dot sight. But, nowadays there are so many options, and for prices ranging from dirt cheap to computer-level expensive. Within this clogged-up market, there is one sight that is appealing across all criteria. That sight is the Dagger Defense DDHB. The Dagger Defense DDHB ReviewThe Dagger Defense DDHB is a reflex sight from the company Dagger Defense (which kind of explains the name.) Dagger Defense is a company that is owned and operated by combat veterans. These are definitely guys who know a thing or two about what makes a great tactical sight. The Dagger Defense DDHB is designed to fit on to the standard Picatinny rail system. So, you can use this sight on basically any firearm with said rail. Or, if you so desire, you can also equip it to airsoft guns and paintball guns. You could even possibly put it on a NERF gun (although why you would remains a mystery.)

Features and SpecsThe veterans at Dagger Defense designed the DDHB with three things in mind: Speed, Convenience, and Accuracy. Made out of aluminum, the Dagger Defense DDHB weighs in at a mere 291 g. or approximately 10 ounces. This adds virtually no weight to your rifle, which is always a concern for tactical sight. After sliding the DDHB onto your weapon, you have the option of locking in the sight for stability if necessary. To do this, there is a locking set screw that you can tighten to lock in your sight. Also, the Dagger Defense DDHB comes with elevation and windage adjustment screws, which you can change with the included Allen wrenches. For marksmen looking for a compact red dot side that doesn’t resemble something out off of a video game, the DDHB is a clear choice. At only 33 mm wide (1.3 inches) and 82 mm long (3.2 inches) the Dagger Defense DDHB leaves plenty of room for other accessories, while still providing a clear field of view at 15.8m@100m.
Compact Size and Battery LifeFor its small size, the Dagger Defense DDHB Red Dot Reflex Sight has all the features you could want. The DDHB gives you the option of choosing a red or green reticle, which you can control with a knob on the side of the sight. Also, the reticle has four different position options controlled by a switch on the back of the sight giving you a total of eight different optics. As if that wasn’t enough, the DDHB also includes a fade adjustor so you can control how bright the reticle is. You make this adjustment using the same knob as the red/green selector. For those concerned with battery life, don’t be. The Dagger Defense DDHB has an excellent battery life, which comes from a CR2032 battery. The DDHB comes with two of these; one already inside the sight, and a replacement battery included with your purchase. The battery is housed within the reticle color/fade adjusting knob.
Pros & Cons
What we really like
✔ Lightweight (10 ounces) ✔ Made out aircraft-grade aluminum ✔ Locking set screw for stability ✔ Compact size ✔ Red and green reticle options ✔ 4 reticle position options ✔ Fade adjustor ✔ Long battery life
What we don't like
✗ Elevation and windage adjustors are screws instead of knobs ✗ No visual or audible units of adjustment (i.e. clicks or markers) ✗ Not waterproof ✗ Not ideal for shotguns
What Other People SayAll across the board, the DDHB has garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews. Users loved the lightness and accuracy of the sight, as well as the color reticle options. Also, several experienced users raved about the build quality of the sight itself and the locking design for attaching to a rail. When it came to comparing to other sights, many users stated that the Dagger Defense DDHB rivaled many high dollar sights from well-known companies such as Ruger and Bushnell. Also, several users reported that the customer service quality from Dagger Defense was off the charts.
Dagger Defense DDHB AlternativesIf you decide that the DDHB is not the reflex sight for you, here are a couple of other options for you to consider.
Bushnell Red Dot SightThis red dot sight actually looks more like a scope and is a bit pricier than the Dagger Defense DDHB. However, the Bushnell Red Dot Sight does offer a few more significant features. The Bushnell is a 3 MOA dot sight that is waterproof and shockproof, and the inside of the scope contains nitrogen, which resists fogging due to humidity and temperature changes. For users, looking for a good budget reflex sight to use day-to-day, going with the DDHB is still a great choice. However, for users looking for a sight that can withstand rough and intense excursions, the Bushnell is the way to go.

Feyachi RS-30 Reflex SightAnother reflex sight in the same price range as the DDHB, the RS-30 comes with the same set of reticle position options and is a similar size. Unlike the DDHB, the RS-30 does not have the red/green color option. One key advantage to the RS-30 is that it has adjustment knobs instead of screws, apart from the set locking screw. Another difference between the DDHB and RS-30 is that the RS-30 runs on different batteries. While the DDHB runs on the RC2032 battery, the RS-30 runs on LR44 (AG13) batteries. The Feyachi RS-30 makes a good alternative to the DDHB as a day-to-day reflex sight.

Vortex Optics Strikefire II Red Dot SightThe Strikefire II is significantly more expensive than the other sights mentioned here. While it comes with a similar range of brightness adjustments and is water and shockproof, there is another design factor that sets the Strikefire II apart. Vortex Optics provides the user with an offset cantilever, so you can use this sight in conjunction with other attachments such as a magnifier or back-up iron sights. Essentially, the only difference between the Strikefire II and the Bushnell is the offset cantilever, and the dot size, which is 4 MOA. So, it’s hard to determine why you should choose the Strikefire II over the other sights.

Dagger Defense DDHB Conclusion and RatingITIShooting.com Rating: (4.5/5) Overall, we give the Dagger Defense DDHB 4.5 stars out of 5 stars. The build quality and customizability were loved by users, the only thing stopping us from giving this sight 5 stars is the fact that the builders used screws instead of knobs for elevation adjustors, and it’s not waterproof. If you’re looking for an inexpensive, high-quality red dot reflex sight, then the Dagger Defense DDHB is the ideal choice. Built by combat veterans, the DDHB offers the lightness, accuracy, and convenience that everyone craves. From the beginning airsoft player to the experienced rifle marksman, the DDHB services all scenarios.
